What is Athletic Therapy?

Athletic Therapists are best known to be the first to respond when someone gets hurt. Athletic therapists are experts at providing injury assessments and furthermore rehabilitation programs tailored to individual needs. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all types, whether on the field or in the gym.
Despite what the general population may think, Athletic therapists treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery to someone with low back pain.
Although the treatment may vary, the objective remains the same: As an Athletic Therapist, it is our goal to ensure clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or carrying their groceries to their car.

Who can benefit?

A common misunderstanding is that Athletic Therapists only work with athletes. The name may be misleading however, Athletic Therapists work with active populations, whether that means you're active in your job, on the weekends with your kids or play a recreational sport. Activities of daily living often require athletic-type movements and an athletic Therapist will be able to develop specific rehabilitation and conditioning programs to aid you with your movement patterns and return you to your normal daily activities.

The following is a non-inclusive list of individuals who may benefit from seeing an Athletic Therapist:
¬ Persons suffering from acute/chronic musculoskeletal injury
¬ Muscle strains/ligament sprains
¬ Fractures
¬ Tendonitis/tendonosus
¬ Back pain
¬ Joint pain (shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, ankle, wrist etc.)
¬ Pre/Post-surgery
¬ Concussion Management
¬ Persons looking for injury prevention programs
¬ Athletic individuals looking to enhance performance
¬ Persons looking to get into physical activity with a pre-existing limitation

What can an Athletic therapist do to help?

Athletic therapists can provide manual techniques such as massaging and soft tissue practices, exercise prescription, stretching, and postural assessments and even bracing and taping. All treatments are individualized to every individual’s specific needs and abilities.  Whether you are an Olympic athlete, a weekend warrior or looking to have an active lifestyle. Our goal is to get you back to your activity in a safe, effective and timely manner.

What is the outcome?

By adhering to a specific program, the end result is always the same. Athletic Therapists ensure you will be capable of sustaining a pain free life with proper movement mechanics, increase strength, increase mobility, and acquire the information you need to remain injury free in your future activities regardless of what they are.
